Patchouli has a reputation. For many people it still means incense shops and heavy oils. But in modern perfumery it is one of the most versatile notes there is: earthy, woody, a little chocolatey, and wonderfully long-lasting.

Pair it with vanilla and something remarkable happens.

Why They Work

Vanilla brings sweetness and softness. On its own it can feel simple or sugary.
Patchouli brings earth and depth. On its own it can feel dark or dusty.
Together they balance each other. The vanilla rounds out the patchouli, and the patchouli keeps the vanilla from tipping into dessert.

Add a soft musk and the pairing settles close to the skin, warm and a little smoky.

How to Wear It

Day: one spray on the wrist. It reads as warm skin with a hint of sweetness.
Evening: add a second spray at the neck. The patchouli deepens as the night goes on.
